This is Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz, one of Penfolds' most revered wines — first made in 1960 by Max Schubert, the "father of Grange". A multi-region blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, aged in the very American oak barrels that have just held the flagship Grange — hence its nickname, "Baby Grange". Concentrated cassis, blackberry, dark chocolate, liquorice and spice meet the sweet vanilla of American oak — generous tannins, rigorous structure and a long finish.
