Yoichi single malt comes from Nikka's Yoichi distillery in Hokkaidō, founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, the father of Japanese whisky — Nikka's birthplace and hallowed ground. Yoichi still practises traditional coal-fired direct distillation, forging a thick-set, powerful spirit. Aromas of peat smoke, saline sea air and ripe fruit; bold, concentrated and deep on the palate. The cold northern seaside setting stamps it with vivid maritime, smoky character. This is the 90th-anniversary limited edition — of real commemorative and collector value. Neat, or with a few drops of water, best reveals its layers.
