This is The Balvenie 17 Year Old DoubleWood, a Speyside single malt (43% ABV). Run by the William Grant family, Balvenie is one of the few distilleries still keeping its own floor maltings, coppersmiths and coopers — famed for its honeyed character. This 17 matures first in bourbon casks, then sherry — honey, dried fruits, vanilla, orange peel and oak in a rich sweetness; silky and layered. An elegant step-up — best savoured neat.
