Matured in bourbon casks then finished in sherry, weaving dried fruit through the smoke for richer layering than the 12 — a fuller expression in the core range. Bowmore is Islay's oldest distillery, founded in 1779. Its No.1 Vaults maturation warehouse sits below sea level, right on the shore of Loch Indaal, where sea air seeps into the casks year-round — giving Bowmore a softer, rounder smoke than Islay's southern distilleries, with sea salt and honeyed sweetness.
